Presets & themes

A preset is the biggest lever in GJS Builder: it's an entire editor theme, not just a pack of blocks.

What a preset is

Where a plugin adds a tool and blocks add components, a preset defines the whole editing experience — panels, default blocks, styling, behaviour. Manage presets under Landings → Presets.

One active at a time

Presets are single-select: exactly one is active. Activating a new preset deactivates the current one. This keeps the editor coherent — you're choosing a complete experience, not stacking conflicting themes.

Standalone-engine presets

A preset can go further and replace GrapesJS entirely. A standalone-engine preset (for example, a GrapesJS Studio build) mounts its own editor instead of the default one. The core detects this and hands off cleanly at boot.

Themes vs presets

  • A theme is a curated visual system for the pages you build.
  • A preset is a theme for the editor itself.

They're complementary: use a preset to shape how you build, and themes/blocks to shape what you ship.

Installing presets

Presets install like any other extension from GJS Market. White-label vendors often ship their own presets from a self-hosted catalog — see White-label.
